The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

15/03/13: The Institute Reguissol invited Big Apple English to come talk to the Batxillerat English class about the book The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne. It gave students the opportunity to talk about the novel, which takes place during the Holocaust, with a native English speaker. Apart from the history and the legacy of the Holocaust, we discussed issues of obedience, innocence, friendship and humanity. All in all, it was a very worthwhile experience for both the students and the teacher.

We highly recommend this book, which is told from the perspective of a German boy whose father is the commandant of a concentration camp during World War II. Divided by a fence, he and a Jewish boy become friends. If you have read the book or plan to, in the “comments” below, you can find some questions to think about.
